Cumin

What is it? Cumin also belongs to the umbellifer family, and originally comes from the regions around Iran, Syria and Turkey. The leaves of the plant resemble fennel, the flowers are white or lilac, and the taste is nutty. It is a popular spice that has been used in Middle Eastern cuisine for centuries.

Tip! If you roast the cumin seeds in a frying pan before use, the taste will come out better.

Food fact: Cumin and caraway can be used as substitutes for each other, but they are really two different spices. Caraway has a slightly softer taste.

Recipe: Sprinkle some cumin seeds over your cheese and ham before you put them in the sandwich maker, so you make a wonderfully scented ham / cumin cheese sandwich.
