But where do they actually come from? The history of &#8216;borrel&#8217; nuts starts in Indonesia. Ketjang Pedis (peanuts with a spiced coating) has traditionally been a popular snack there. After the Second World War, two Javanese brothers introduced them to the Netherlands, and they were the source of inspiration for our Dutch snack. Since the 1950s, they have been a welcome item on the snack board in addition to a beer and bitterbal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Food fact:<\/strong> the term &#8216;borrelnootje&#8217; used to be refer to macadamia nuts.
