04 Oct Culinary expedition – Love goes through the stomach, and not just with men
Eating together has been one of the most powerful ways to connect for centuries: food brings people closer together. And sometimes… it even sparks something more than just the appetite.
Why does food work so well in love?
Food activates all our senses – smell, taste, touch, even sound. It stimulates and relaxes at the same time. When you sit at the table together, it creates space for conversation, eye contact, laughter, sharing. And that makes food the perfect means of building tension, showing interest, and allowing that infamous “click” to happen.
Moreover, it shows who you are. Are you adventurous or just classic? Do you go for safe or spicy? What you order (or cook!) often says more than you think. In many cultures, sharing food together is also a sign of trust, intimacy and even a first step towards something deeper.
Seduce with flavour
From oysters to chocolate, figs to honey: over the centuries, certain ingredients have become associated with passion, energy and lust. They are not called aphrodisiacs for nothing. And whether it is science or symbolism – the idea that certain flavours stir up something extra makes for an exciting element at the table.
An aphrodisiac is a substance that increases libido, sexual desire and sexual attraction. These substances range from various plants, spices and foods to synthetic chemicals.
Culinary food and dating
Whether you are at the start of a fledgling romance, want to celebrate something with your partner, or just fancy an evening full of atmosphere and flavour – a culinary activity is the perfect setting. You get to know each other in a different way, without awkward silences or forced conversations. How you eat together determines what happens next. Do both taste good? The food as well as the company? Then anything can happen!
At Eat2Gather, we create experiences where food not only nourishes, but also connects. Love may go through the stomach, but for a long-term relationship you need to keep feeding each other, with attention, taste and a little spice. So consider a bonbon workshop or a tasting of oysters and bubbles on the water. Not too serious, but full of fun, seduction and experience.
Tip: A romantic getaway (with perhaps aphrodisiacs) might be the Route de Vin et Vélo d’Amsterdam. This culinarily tempting wine cycling route will take place on Sunday 7 September 2025. You can register for it now via this LINK.
